| Deaf Cultural CenterClient: Kansas Educational Foundation Deaf Cultural Center (KEFDCC) Location: 455 East Park Street, Olathe, KS Use: Museum, Office, Conference Center Size: 5,800 s.f. Completion: 2001 This multi-function building helps our client meet their mission “to serve as a community resource, bringing Deaf history and Deaf culture to life and uniting Deaf and hearing communities in a common bond of understanding and appreciation.” By capitalizing on the efficiency and economy of a design/build process this project moved forward to become a beautiful, functional, and appropriate structure that provides museum space, meeting space, and offices for the KEFDCC. Using brick and cast-stone masonry in a manner complimentary to the adjacent Kansas School for the Deaf, the plan of this wood framed structure is arranged to minimize “blind corners”, creating a lobby space more inviting to the Deaf community. |
